25 Road Projects Awarded On Contract

The Kumasi Metropolitan Authority (KMA) has awarded 25 roads on contract at a total cost of ?4.4 billion to improve the road network and ease traffic congestion in the metropolis.

The contracts, which form only a fraction of the quantum of road projects to be tackled this year have already been ratified by the Assembly.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Maxwell Kofi Jumah, disclosed that the Metro and Regional Tender boards are to award several roads on contract for rehabilitation and upgrading into all-weather roads.

Some of the roads that have been awarded on contract for upgrading are the Tafo/Nhyiaeso/Yenyawoso roads at ?223 million; Duasi/Bremang Kronum roads (?357 million) and the Asuoyeboa/Kwadaso roads (?270 million).

Jumah disclosed further that a second ring road has been designed by the Department of Urban Roads to link the Sunyani, Techiman and the Mampong highways to the Accra road at a point between Kentinkrono and KNUST.

He said efforts are being made to source funding for this project to help lessen the pressure on the existing roads to the city.

It is expected that when developed, the new ring road will draw traffic away from congested places like Kwadaso, Tafo and Taakwa-Maakro.

The said new road project is expected to traverse communities like Asuoyeboa/Tanoso through Pankrono, Boukrom and Asokore Mampong.
