25 perished on Konongo-Nnadieso stretch of Kumasi-Accra Highway

A total of 25 people perished in car crashes on the Konongo-Nnadieso stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway between January and December, last year.

In all, there were 50 accidents on that section of the road during the period as compared with the previous year’s figure of 65.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Sandow Latebu, Asante-Akim South District Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency that 78 vehicles, 52 of which were commercial and 26 private, were involved.

He put the number of people injured at 108, down from the 2011’s total of 134.

DSP Latebu said although there was a reduction of the accident cases recorded in year 2012, the period saw more deaths.

He said the police had intensified road safety education to help bring down the fatalities.

He advised drivers and pedestrians to observe road traffic regulations, signs and markings to make the roads safe.
