23 prostitutes busted at Osu

The Cantonments Police Sunday night arrested 23 suspected prostitutes who have allegedly been harassing diplomats living in the area with sex.

The suspected prostitutes are said to be made up of Nigerians, Ghanaians, Togolese, Liberians, Béninoise and a Cameroonian.

They purposely take stands along the busy streets of the Italian Embassy, Osu Oxford Street, Togo Embassy, Dankwa Circle and the Akufo-Addo intersection.

Dressed in miniskirts, tight trousers, shorts and strap straddled as blouses thus revealing their body parts and shapes, the suspected prostitutes, according to the police, jump into the streets to peep into any vehicle that moves at the areas mentioned above.

Last Sunday’s operation by the divisional command, led by ACP Winfred Frimpong, was part of other operations organized this year to clamp down on the activities of these supposed sex traders.

Jennifer Kennedy, who is said to have a nine-year-old son reportedly locked up the boy in the room and left to practise her trade.

The police, upon information, had to break into the apartment to free the boy.

ACP Winfred Frimpong confirmed to DAILY GUIDE that the police had often organized swoops to rid those areas of this illegal trade, but the number keeps increasing, despite the arrests.

“Within this year, we have arrested several of them and taken them to court. They were fined various amounts of money but sadly, you see them the next day on the streets and we wonder if the fines are not punishment enough to deter them from this trade, he expressed.

He said the police had received several reports of the suspected prostitutes harassing residents, diplomats and drivers who ply the roads in the areas aforementioned.
