?220m Outboard Motors for Fishing Group

THE KETU District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Linus Koffie, has presented eleven 40-house power Yamaha outboard motors valued at ?220 million to selected fishing groups in the district at Denu.

The gesture, according to him, is in line with government’s determination to revamp the fishing industry for increased productivity.

He announced that his administration has given out an amount of ?382 million to 420 fishmongers at Agavedzi, Adina, Blekusu and Sallakope under the government’s Emergency Social Relief Programme.

Koffie appealed to the fishermen to limit their operations within the territorial waters of Ghana and sell their catch on the country’s beaches.

The DCE hinted that the assembly will monitor their operations and will bring to book those who will be tempted to sell the equipment, especially to fishermen outside the country.

He charged the beneficiaries to take good care of the machines and seek the services of qualified personnel in their maintenance in order to prolong their life span.

The Ketu District Director for Agriculture, Mr. B.K. Dzakpata, hoped the package would motivate them to work harder to produce more.

Torgbui Dorgbeavu III, the chief monger of Agavedzi, thanked the government for the assistance and stressed the need to expand the facility to benefit other fishermen.
