21 communities connected to the national grid

Twenty-one (21) farming communities in the Asante-Akim South District have been connected to the national grid under the rural electrification project.

They include Kyempo, Didipakyie, Menamenaso, Abakobon, Bankame-Sunkwa, Dickson, Ebuoho, Tetteh-Amankwah, Kpone-Praso, Emefa and Kokoben.

The rest are Asuagya, Tokwai-Asuboi, Abronsanase, Kwadwo Adansi, Apragya, Asempaneye, Yaw Barimah, Adofokrom, Kwakrukrom, Mensakrom and Tetteh Wayo.

Mr. De-graft Forkuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), at the official inauguration of the project, asked the people in the beneficiary communities to take advantage of it to boost economic activities and improve their living conditions.

They should also act together to protect the investment by avoiding wildfires and any other activity likely to damage the electricity poles, distribution lines and transformers.

He spoke of the government’s determination to make things better for people in the rural communities to halt the drift of the youth in these areas to the urban centres in search for good lives.

Mr. Fokuo said given access to electricity, potable water, good roads and other social amenities the people would have no incentive to migrate to the cities.

He urged the people to unite and pool resources towards the implementation of self-help projects and pledged the assembly’s support to communities that took the initiative to tackle their felt needs.

Nana Ameyaw Henaku, Chief of Tokwai-Asuboi, said the communities were grateful to the government for the intervention.
