2016 polls: TV cameras to be allowed in EC collation centre – EC boss

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei, has stated that television cameras will be allowed to provide live coverage of activities within the national election collation centre at the headquarters of the commission.

Mrs. Osei disclosed this Thursday while addressing the Editor’s Forum in Accra. The move, she said, would ensure utmost transparency in the December 7, presidential and parliamentary elections.

“For the first time at the National Collation Centre, we will allow the TV cameras in, so that everyone will see the process as the results come in from the collation centres.

“So, as the results come and as we put them together, the whole country will have the privilege of walking with us along that chain, so, this makes it very difficult for anyone to play mischief, for anyone to amend the results. Because everyone and all the parties’ candidates and their party agents will have the result,” she said.

She continued: “It is really impossible for the chair of the Electoral Commission, working with all the other commissioners, to change any of the results because we really lack the ability to be at the 29,000 polling stations and the 275 constituencies, and we also lack the ability to grab the results that are being held by the candidates and their party agents and amend all that”.
