2016 polls: PPP opens nominations

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) will open nominations for flagbearer-aspirants from December 2, 2015.

The party, has, therefore, invited members, in good standing, to pick up nomination forms to contest for the slot.

The party has also set January 13, 2016 to begin the process of vetting aspirants, which should end by January 27, 2016.

According to a statement signed by National Secretary Murtala Mohammed, the election of the flagbearer will take place on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at all the 275 Constituencies in the country and the presidential candidate, so elected, will be confirmed at the party’s 4th anniversary national convention to be held in Accra on Saturday, February 27, 2016.

“The National Committee has approved a fee of GHC10,000.00 to pick a presidential nomination form, while filing of the form will attract a fee of GH¢30,000.00 per candidate,” the statement added. “Women and physically handicapped prospective candidates will be offered a 50% rebate.”

The party noted that further rules of engagement with regards to the campaign will be communicated to the presidential aspirants when they pick their forms at the party’s national headquarters.

“While many of the 275 constituencies have elected their parliamentary candidates to contest the 2016 general elections, those who have not done so are encouraged to complete the process by December 31, 2016 under the supervision of their regional executives.”
