2016 polls: I was disappointed – Nduom

The 2016 flag bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has stated that even though losing an election is not new to him, he was extremely saddened that the party could not win a single parliamentary seat in the 2016 polls out of the available 275 seats.

“After the 2016 elections, I was disappointed, very disappointed… I was extremely disappointed that our party, the PPP, did not win the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem (KEEA) parliamentary seat because we were certain [of] that seat and four others including Salaga North,” he stated on Monday, June 19.

We believed certain seats across the country, at least five of them, would be in the win column for us.”

He said the PPP was hopeful of getting at least five seats, so winning none of the constituencies was very heart-breaking for him because “our people worked very hard”.

He was of the view that the party had a lot of men and women who sacrifice much and went all over the country to canvass votes, so for the party to emerge with no Member of Parliament was a “huge disappointment” for him.

On the presidential front, he said he felt the party could have made a bigger impact even if the PPP didn’t win, but it wasn’t so.

For him, “it is not good to lose in anything in life but it is not the end, however it draws you back”.

However he said anyone who is determined would always gather his resources and re-strategise to achieve his objectives.
