2016: Do sane campaigning – Ibn Chambas

Dr Mohammed Ibn Chambas, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and Head of the UN Office for West Africa, has made a passionate appeal to Ghanaians to consolidate the country’s democratic credentials as the nation enters into a heightened political season.

Speaking at the launch of a book co-authored by the New Patriotic Party’s running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, titled ‘Key Determinants of National Development: Historical Perspectives & Implications for Developing Economies,’ Dr Chambas said an election year sees heightened political activity, but pleaded, “please let us keep all of that sane”.

According to him, the UN will like to see Ghana remain a model democracy, adding that tremendous achievements have been made over the years with the various governments.

“Let us continue to consolidate our democratic gains and to step up our economic growth and development,” he advised.

Dr Ibn Chambas revealed the UN will do its best to keep an eye on Ghana’s electioneering “so that we can have credible and peaceful elections.”
