2016 Aboakyer to be held May 2-8

This year’s Aboakyer Festival, to be held from Monday, May 2 to Sunday, May 8 is expected to draw huge crowds to Winneba in the Central Region of Ghana.

Aboakyer, an annual Festival celebrated by the people of Effutu in Winneba is an occasion to commemorate the migration of ‘Simpafo’; the traditional name given to the people of Winneba.

At a Press Conference organised yesterday in Winneba by Nyce Media; the official publicity agency for Aboakyer 2016, the Chief Executive Officer; Mr James Kofi Annan said although the Aboakyer Festival faced some challenges in the past Nyce Media is poised to rebrand the festival to promote development.

As a result of the rebranding, the organisers are estimating one million patrons to the Festival this year.

The Aboakyer Festival is the pride of the people of Winneba and arguably the most talked and about Festival in Ghana.

This year’s event includes various massive activities including popular artistes drawn from across the musical genres to perform at the several spots and entertainment centres in Winneba.

Notable among the activities are the massive parade of deities by the two Asafo companies, the deer hunting and the processions and merry-making on Saturday.

What is unique about this year’s festival is that the climax of the Festival has been shifted from Saturday to Sunday May 8, when the finals of the on-going Aboakyer Festival will be played at the Winneba United Park,

Present at the Press Conference was the Chairman of the Aboakyer Board, Nenyi Kojo Beedu and his executive members.
