2011 Best farmer commends gov’t

The 2011 National Best Farmer, Mr. Ignatius Agbo, has congratulated the government for increasing the price of Cocoa by 62.74% this year.

He has also congratulated the government for deciding to pay bonuses to farmers instantly as they sell their produce. Mr. Agbo told The Chronicle that by this gesture the government has relieved farmers of traits of poverty.

The chief farmer, however, appealed to the government to reintroduce the Akuafo cheque to protect farmers from armed robbers. Mr. Agbo said should a farmer produce say 500 bags of cocoa and paid in cash, it will be dangerous for such farmer to carry cash without attracting armed robbers.

The best farmer wished the government well for supplying farmers with free fertilizer to boost their produce and also introduce the mass spraying exercise.

He also appealed to the government to supply more fertilizer and other chemicals for the benefit of all farmers.
