2011 and 2012 Best Farmers yet to receive prizes

The Best Farmers for 2011 and 2012 are yet to receive their prizes a day to the 2013 National Framers Day celebration.

The Ministry of Agriculture has not completed the three bedroom houses won by the best farmers which are part of their prize package.

A group of farmers who are not happy about the development are threatening to boycott Friday’s Farmers Day Celebrations.

Deputy Agric Minister, Dr. Alhassan Ahmed, in an interview with XYZ News asked the aggrieved farmers to exercise restraint.

According to him, the houses which are still under construction will be presented to the farmers as soon as they are completed.

“Some of the awards do delay in coming because the National Best Farmer is supposed to receive a three bedroom house and it doesn’t take a short while to build a house”.

“The house has to be built at a location of the award winners’ choice and all these including acquisition of the land and processing of papers all delay and that is why there are some challenges.

“I do know for a fact that the house for the 2011 best farmer is almost completed,” Dr. Alhassan said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Agric Minister said all is set for Friday’s farmers day celebration at the Sogakope in the Volta Region.
