Ho, Dec. 31, GNA – Mr. Mawutor Goh, Ho Municipal Chief Executive assured the Ho Municipal Assembly that the year 2006 holds great promises for the municipality although there is a long way to go. Mr Goh made this point in a summary of the Assembly’s performance for 2005 and outlook for 2006 at the opening session of the last sitting of the House for 2005 in Ho.
He thanked members for their positive approach to work and acknowledged the exceptional devotion of some members who, though are not resident in the Volta Region responded promptly when called upon by the Assembly to attend to any of its business.
“Thanks for the strong support from members our mistakes and shortcomings not withstanding”, he said.
Mr Goh said 2006 would see remarkable improvements in the road infrastructure in the Ho municipality now that the Department of Urban Roads has been created in the municipality. He said already road markings have started in the municipality and other road projects slated for 2006 included traffic Lights at the Civic Centre, re-surfacing and drainage on the road stretching from Ahoe roundabout to K.K House.
The bridges linking Dome to Housing and Dome to Volta Barracks and Municipal hospital Glalah Street would be reconstructed. Mr Goh said the Assembly’s proposed Administration block complex project, which was suspended in 2005 in order to make funds available towards the establishment of the Electronic, E-Schools Center at OLA Girls’ Secondary school would be tackled in 2006.
He said four more schools would be roped into the Schools feeding programme in the municipal area in addition to a school at Sokode-Lokoe. Regarding the implementation of the capitation grant, Mr. Goh said 20 schools in the municipal area, which failed to open accounts for the facility were yet to enjoy the grant.
He appealed to Assembly members to show keen interest in issues relating to the grant Mr Goh said the Assembly had almost completed the process of the establishment a Sister-City relationship with a city in Finland, which promises to be very beneficial to the assembly in terms of human resource development.
