Sunyani, Jan. 25, GNA – At least 200,000 children in basic schools throughout the country will be fed under the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) feeding programme this year.
Mrs. Angelina Baiden-Amissah, a Deputy Minister of Education and Sports in-charge of Basic and Teacher Training Education, who announced this in Sunyani during an inspection tour of some basic schools, said 1,840 pupils were fed last year on pilot basis.
She said 95 billion cedis had been released for the payment of the capitation grant, but said 17 of the 138 districts throughout the country were yet to submit their reports to the Ministry.
Meanwhile, Mr. Kwame Awuah-Twumasi, Municipal Chief Executive for Sunyani has named five schools that were selected by the Assembly to benefit under this year’s NEPAD programme in the municipality. The schools are Fiapre Presbyterian Primary, Abesim Roman Catholic Primary, Sunyani Municipal Assembly Primary, Chiraa Presbyterian Primary and Odomase Seven-Day Adventist Primary.
