200 poultry farmers schooled on methods of feeding

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Oct. 23, GNA – Two hundred poultry farmers in Dormaa have ended a day’s workshop at Dormaa-Ahenkro on recommended methods of feeding their poultry for desirable yields. Experts from Ghana Nuts company, a renowned poultry feed producing company, took them through the methods.

Ghana Nuts organised the training for their clients to update them on new products and prospects in the industry. Mr. Peter Boampong, a Marketing Manager for Ghana Nuts noted that the survival or otherwise of the poultry industry in Ghana was contingent on the type and application of feed that poultry farmers employed on their farms.

Soya meal, he said, is the right poultry feed with the right protein, moisture and fat parameters necessary for modern poultry farming and urged participants to stick to its use. Reverend Antwi Boasiako, a consultant with Ghana Nuts noted that the company’s aim was to control the cost build-up in feed production to pave way for competitively-priced products for the ultimate benefit of the entire Ghanaian economy.

He said the company remained unwavering in its conviction that, given the necessary support and product patronage, it would lift the poultry industry in Dormaa to greater heights.

Nana Kwabena Asamoah Sebreku, Chairman for Dormaa poultry Farmers Association appealed to government to speed up action on the union’s request for the establishment of a poultry processor and a common poultry market at Dormaa.

He pledged the union’s readiness to partner government in its drive to meet the protein requirement of Ghanaians and also curb the incidence of Ghana’s reliance on imported poultry products for consumption. The Municipal Director of Food and Agriculture, Mr Ernest Badu urged the farmers to submit to expert advice on modern methods of poultry to avoid falling prey to diseases on their farms. He underscored bio-security and the application of good feed and agro-chemicals in their right proportions for poultry. 23 Oct. 10
