During a trip to Ghana in 1999 – according to the diaries of the then UK Deputy High Commissioner Craig Murray – Prince Philip asked a local MP how many colleagues he had in the Ghanaian Parliament.
Told the figure was about 200, Philip replied: ‘That’s about the right number. We have 650 and most of them are a complete bloody waste of time.’
