20 Communities To Benefit From Telecom Project

Twenty communities in the Upper West Region are to benefit from a Rural Radio Telecommunication project sponsored by Ghana Telecom Company. The beneficiary communities include Kaleo, Nadowli, Jirapa, Nandom/Gwollu, Funsi, Yala and Hamile. Mr Baffour Asare-Forjour, Upper West regional director of Ghana Telecom, made this known at a sod-cutting ceremony to begin work on the project. He said Ghana Telecom will increase its direct exchange lines in Wa from 500 to 1,000 while its customer service network in the region ”is to be increased from 1,000 to 1,400. The project is being undertaken by Marubeni Corporation of Japan. It is expected to be completed in three months. Alhaji Ali Seidu Pelpuo, Wa district chief executive, emphasised the important role of communications in development and urged subscribers to pay their bills regularly in return for services rendered by Ghana Telecom.
