Some staff of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in the Eastern Region have threatened to hit the streets to demand for their unpaid salaries.
They said efforts to get government to pay their over two years’ salary arrears have yielded no positive results, hence their decision to demonstrate.
Speaking to Class News’ regional correspondent, Kwame Appiah-Kubi, a staff said their monthly payment vouchers validated from the district offices indicate that salary arrears have been processed from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department for them to receive their salary arrears, but the monies have not hit their accounts.
“Our issue basically is about our salary arrears that have not been paid for over 19 to 21 months. …The Ministry of Finance says it has released money for the payment of NADMO workers with outstanding salary issues, but the concern is that when our salaries are paid, in the payment vouchers that the accountants work on, it shows that we have been validated by the office to receive our arrears, but at the end of the month, when we go to the bank, we see that only our monthly salaries have been paid and the arrears have not been paid…” he bemoaned.
