Two old men who allegedly defiled a five-year-old Kindergarten girl at Effia, near Takoradi in the Western Region, were hauled before a Takoradi circuit court yesterday.
The two men, Kofi Essoun, 60, a farmer and Nana Ahenkofi, 70, allegedly took turns to defile the poor girl sometime in December 2014.
Essoun lives in the same house with the victim’s mother at Effia while Ahenkofi, lives nearby.
The two, after purportedly defiling the girl, warned her not to tell anyone about her ordeal or else, she would die.
It was alleged that Essoun was the first to defile the minor after which Ahenkofi purportedly took over.
The two were said to have sat the girl on their laps in turns and abused her sexually, resulting in profuse bleeding from her private part and the anus.
The pleas of the two were not taken when they appeared before the court presided over by Mrs Rita Doko.
The court remanded the accused persons into police custody to reappear on March 3, 2015.
Speaking to journalists, the Takoradi District Police Commander, Supt Peter Ofori Donkor, disclosed that in December last year, Ama Asantewaaa, mother of the victim, detected blood stains in the panties of her daughter.
According to the police officer, when the mother questioned the daughter, she indicated that nothing had happened, and so the mother did not take the matter serious.
However, on February 9, this year, while the victim was in school, she visited the toilet and kept long in coming out.
A female teacher, who became worried about the time the toddler was spending at the place, decided to follow up.
When the teacher went to the washroom, she saw the girl in serious pains, with her panties soaked with blood.
Superintendent Donkor disclosed further that after thorough examination, the teacher saw blood oozing from her private part and anus. The female teacher then rushed the girl home and was later sent to the Kwesimintsim Hospital.
The doctors, after examination, disclosed that the little girl had been defiled.
The case was, therefore, reported at the Takoradi Central Police Station and the victim, upon interrogation, mentioned Essoun and Ahenkofi as the people who had sex with her.
The old men were subsequently arrested and put before the court.
