Two persons have been mistakenly killed by hunters in the Eastern Region within the past two weeks as a result of poor visibility rendered by the rainy season, the regional command of the Ghana Police Service has said.
The hunters, after police interrogation, claim to have fired after noticing the shaking of plants.
The regional command is, as a result, advising hunters in the Region “to desist from indiscriminate discharge of firearm to avoid instances where innocent people are killed or harmed due to hunters firing without the expected diligence or carefulness.”
It further admonished in a release on Thursday, March 19 that: “Individual and group hunters are advised to exercise the greatest care and diligence in their operations to avoid shooting people who are also embarking on hunting or other activities in the area.”
It also called on hunters in the country to observe the game and wildlife regulations as regards firearms.
“Hunters in Ghana should, therefore, understand that the firearms they are using for hunting must be licensed for the period the hunting takes place and also must have been granted a game license by the Chief Game and Wildlife Officer else such hunters commit offence,” the release signed by Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, the Public Affairs Officer of the Command, said.
