2 injured in 8-car pile-up on N1

At least two people were severely injured in a pile-up involving eight vehicles on the N1 highway at Dzorwulu Junction on Friday afternoon, according to an eyewitness.

It involved an articulated truck supposedly travelling from Tema, mini urvan buses, and a taxi cab.

Although the cause of the accident is still not clear, the eyewitness said the heavy traffic might have caused it.

Most of the cars had their windscreens smashed in the process.

The Police were at the scene to control the situation.

Today’s accident is the second on the US-funded highway this week. On Wednesday morning a tipper truck careered into a tanker, killing four people and seriously injuring several others. The six-lane, 14-kilometre road, officialy named the George Walker Bush highway, has seen dozens of accidents, many of them fatal, since it opened in February last year.
