Kumasi, Aug 26, GNA – The Department of Urban Roads has started building a 2.7-kilometre road from the Osei Kyeretwie Secondary School Junction to the Suame Magazine New Road and also from Old Tafo Ahenbronum to the New Road in the Kumasi metropolis.
The construction of the roads is to help divert vehicular traffic from the main Kumasi-Mampong road to help reduce traffic jam in the area.
Mr Francis Ampadu, the Assemblyman for Tafo-Ahenbronum Electoral Area, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Thursday.
He said negotiations had been made with landlords who had encroached on the roads with structures to demolish them to pave way for the work to go on smoothly.
The assemblyman also said the construction of the roads would improve the transportation system in the area and appealed to the residents to co-operate with the Tafo Town Council and the Department of Urban Roads to ensure the early completion of the project.
Mr J.O. Amoo-Gottfried, Kumasi Metropolitan Roads Engineer, said the first phase of the project involves the construction of culverts and bridges after which the roads would be awarded on contract.
