19-year old pupil drowns in the sea while fishing

Half Assini (W/R), Aug. 30, (Credit: Ayebiagu-S/366)GNA — Master Abraham Egyir, a 19-year-old class four pupil of Odukpankpei Primary School at Kasoa in the Central Region is believed to be drowned in the sea during a fishing expedition.

The tragedy occurred when the canoe in which he was working in capsized at Half Assini in the Jomoro district of the Western Region.

The step-father of the deceased, Mr. Daniel Afei confirmed the accident to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Half Assini at the weekend.

He said the deceased joined his fishing crew from Nyayano in the Central Region after school vacated for fishing.

Mr Afei said Egyir had been going for fishing with his the crew at Nyayano and Yagir during school vacations until he met his untimely death.

He said a search party was still searching for the body of Egyir and appealed to fishermen, who might find a floating corpse on sea to report to them.

This is the third time someone had drowned at sea at Half Assini over the last two months.
