Apam (C/R), Oct. 8, GNA – The Gomoa District have between 1991 and 2003 trained 18,806 illiterates to be functional through the Non-formal Education Division of the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports. This achievement was made possible through the hard work of the committed NFED staff in the district.
Mr Panford Kofi Danson, NFED District Coordinator for Gomoa said this at the inauguration of the Gomoa District Awareness Creation Committee (GDACC) of the NFED at Apam on Friday.
In an address, Mr Danson mentioned lack of logistics and transport as some of the major constrain impeding the effective operation of the NFED in the Gomoa District.
He, however, assured the people in the area as well as the government, of the workers determination to offer more sacrifices to ensure the successes of the NFED.
He appealed to the government to re-activate the Apam FM station established by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in 1986, which was closed down after a few years of operation.
According to Mr Danson, the station played a vital role in a pilot programme to highlight issues in connection with NFED activities in the district.
He said, since the FM station played a key role in sensitising the people, the re-activation of the station would go a long way to enhance the operation of the NFED.
Mr J.E Enninful, regional coordinator of the organization said the committee would be responsible for effective supervision and monitoring of the activities of the NFED supervisors and facilitators in the district.
He charged members of the committee to be duty-conscious to enable them provide credible service to people in the area.
Speaking at the function, the District Chief Executive for Gomoa, Madam Joyce Aidoo, reiterated the determination of government to make the NFED chalk-up more resounding success as far as function literacy programme was concern in the coming years.
She assured the NFED workers in the district that the Gomoa District Assembly would do all within it powers to address some of the pressing issues militating against the effective operation of the organization.
Ms. Emelia Turkson responsible for income-generating activity/micro-financing department of the NFED appealed to people in the district to take advantage of the government micro-financing scheme to improve their living standards.
