184 vie for 54 seats in Wassa West

Tarkwa (W/R), Aug 17, GNA – A total of 184 Candidates including 26 women have filed their nominations for to contest district level elections slated for next month in the Wassa West District. Mr Yaw Opoku, Wassa West District Electoral Officer, however, told the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that the interest in the Unit Committee election was not encouraging, adding that 40 units were yet to be applied for.

For a Unit to become contestable, Mr Opoku said, more than 10 people should contest.

The Electoral Officer said his outfit was in the process of printing the Notice of Poll for both District Assembly and Unit Committee Elections, after which it would organize common platforms for the candidates to interact with the public.

He appealed to the people not to politicise the elections because it is non-partisan as enshrined in the Constitution. 17 Aug. 06
