18 girls defiled in Tema in May 2004; seven made pregnant

Tema, June 02, GNA – Available statistics before the Tema Police indicate that 18 young girls were defiled in May 2004 out of which seven, aged between 14 and 15 were made pregnant.

Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Tema Police Public Relations Officer disclosed to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday that some of the men who made the girls pregnant have been dealt with, others on the run, while relatives of some of them who came for medical form had fail to show up again, presumably they have settled the case at home.

He said pertinent among the suspects is a 23-year-old teacher, Daniel Sedafor who impregnated a 14-year-old girl in his class at Ashaiman. He has been arrested and placed in custody.

He said the victim reported sick and was sent to the hospital where she was diagnosed of being two-months pregnant and mentioned the teacher as responsible for the pregnancy.

Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said according to the girl, the teacher proposed love and promised to marry her and invited her to his house to make love resulting in her pregnancy. 02 June 04
