17 narcotic suspects remanded

Agona Swedru, March 3, GNA – The Agona Swedru High Court on Wednesday remanded 17 suspected narcotic drug dealers into prison custody for two weeks to enable the police to complete their investigations.

The plea of the suspects who were sent to the Nsawam Prisons, were not taken and they would reappear on March 16.

Police Chef Inspector N K Koffie told the crowded court presided over by Mr Justice Senyo Dzinfa, that on February 27 this year, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alex Acquah led a team of policemen from Agona Nyakrom, Winneba, Bawjiase, Apam and Swedru who rounded up the suspects at Mahodwe and Dwenho suburbs of Swedru. He told the court that the Police retrieved dried leaves and some whitish powdered substance suspected to be Indian hemp and cocaine respectively from the suspects.

The Police also retrieved five long bones suspected to be human bones and assorted drinks.

The prosecution said the Police had granted Akua Frimpomaa, the only female among the suspects rounded up on Sunday, bail.

One of the suspects Ebo Gaisie astonished the court when with permission from the Judge mentioned the names of seven persons believed to be the main narcotic drugs dealers in the district to two Policemen in the second chamber of the Judge.

The Judge ordered the arrest of the seven to be arraigned on the day the suspects are to reappear.
