160 fire outbreaks in 2015 so far, GNFS confirms

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that between January 1 and January 7, this year, 160 fire outbreaks have been recorded.

This was revealed in a statement issued by the Service on Tuesday, January 13.

The figure is said to be nationwide and not Greater Accra Region as earlier reported in the media.

“Inasmuch as management understands and appreciates the concerns raised by the public, management wishes to emphatically state that the figure represents the total number of fire outbreaks in all the regions and not Greater Accra alone, as media reports have suggested,” the statement said.

The statement appealed to the public to adhere to basic fire safety practices as it expresses worry about the upsurge in disasters, the latest being the Central Medical Stores in Tema.
