16-year-old motorbike thief arrested in Tumu

A sixteen (16) year old motorbike thief Mufutawu Abdulai aka Agyakum, has been arrested by police in Tumu in the Sissala East District of the Upper West region for stealing a Honda motorbike belonging to a tutor of the Tumu Secondary Technical School.

According to Balu Mohammed of Tumu-based Radford Fm, the suspect sneaked into the home of victim who is the younger brother of the Sissala East Constituency Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and picked the new motorbike that was parked.

He was reported to have absconded from the area with the bike prompting the owner to call for announcements to be effected at a local radio station when he came out of his room and could not locate his bike.

Some local motorbike mechanics who had earlier spotted the suspect on the Tumu-Kowie stretch of the Welembelle/Wa route moments before the announcement, gave him a hot chase afterwards.

Luck however eluded him when they managed to arrest him but for the timely intervention of some good Samaritans who saved him from being lynched.

They advised he should to handed over to the police instead being subjected instance justice as has become the practice in recent times.

He admitted to committing the offence in his caution statement and is currently in police custody assisting the police in their investigations.
