16 Fire Posts For Wa Soon

Wa (Upper West), 9 Nov. Sixteen new fire service posts and one station would soon be established in the Upper West Region to enhance the activities of fire volunteers and check indiscriminate bush burning in the region. In the interim 1,500 trained fire volunteers have been distributed throughout the region to educate the public to fight fire outbreak. Mr. Philip Ahetor, the Regional Fire Officer who announced this in an interview with the GNA yesterday, said his outfit is currently negotiating with various district assemblies to acquire office accommodation for the fire posts. He said apart from Wa and Tumu stations which are fully operational, the other stations in the region need adequate equipment to be able to work effectively. He called on the Fire Service Headquarters to assist all stations in the region to attain the status of district stations. He said a new fire stations will be opened at Nadowli., the only district capital in the region that has no fire station.
