15 more schools receive 785 better Ghana laptops

Ms Sherry Aryitey, Minister of Environment, Science and Technology on Friday handed over 785 Better Ghana, branded laptops to 15 senior high schools (SHS) in Upper East, Upper West and Eastern Regions on behalf of Government.

The schools are: Upper West Region – Ermon SHS, Queen of Peace SHS, Dafiama SHS, Islamic SHS, Lawra SHS, T.I. Ahmadiyya SHS, Wa Technical SHS, Nusrat Jahan Training College, Larsia Tuore, Nandom, St Francis SHS, Wa SHS, and Jirapa SHS.

The beneficiary institutions from the Eastern Region are: St Thomas Senior High Technical School and Asamankese SHS.

Ms Aryitey who made the presentation at the forecourt of the ministry said the gesture was part of government’s commitment to providing Information and Communication Technology skills to students in tertiary and second cycle institutions.

She tasked the recipient schools to put the laptops into good use to keep students in pace with trends in modern technology and communication.

Mrs Victoria Kumah-Mintah who received the laptops on behalf of Eastern Region schools while Mr Emmanuel Yuori collected on behalf of the Upper West Region.

Mrs Kumah-Mintah told the Ghana News Agency that the laptops were going to enhance teaching and learning of Information and Communication Technology and to solve computer deficiencies in the schools.

The distribution of the laptops forms part of the Mathematics, Science and Technology Scholarship programme which the Ministry, initiated in 2011.

The programme is aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning of mathematics and Information and Communication Technology in the various tertiary and second cycle institutions.

Last year, President John Dramani Mahama said about 400,000 Better Ghana branded laptops would be distributed in 2013 to tertiary and second cycle schools.
