15 Ghanaian students to study in Cuba

Accra, Sept. 23, GNA – Fifteen Ghanaian students were on Tuesday awarded scholarships to study engineering, humanities and para-medicals for four to five years in Cuba.

The scholarship comes under an educational exchange programme between Ghana and Cuba.

Mr Rashid Bawa, Minister of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, addressing the students after they had signed the certificate of code of ethics, advised them to study very hard while in Cuba and to come back to give their best to Ghana.

He told the students, who would leave for Cuba tomorrow, to be good ambassadors of Ghana and that the Ghana Embassy in Cuba would monitor their performance.

Mr Lucas Domingo Hernandez Polledo, Cuban Ambassador to Ghana, said 29,686 African students have graduated from Cuba since the 1960s out of which 1,170 were Ghanaians who had returned home to render valuable service to the country.

Ms Clara Polido, Political Counsellor, Cuban Embassy, in an address said the scholarship was a further demonstration and recognition of how Ghanaians were performing very well in Cuba.

She read the code of ethics for foreign students, who study in Cuba and stressed the need for the students to come back to Ghana and serve the country.

Ms Elizabeth Ohene, Minister of State responsible for tertiary education witnessed the ceremony.
