Techiman (B/A), Jan. 5, GNA – The chiefs and people of Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region are to construct a 15 billion- cedi Nkwantanan Cultural Center at Takofiano in Techiman.

Work on the center, which will have a theatre and a 1,560-capacity conference hall and to be financed by the Techiman Traditional Council, NGOs, international and local industries, is expected to begin this year.

Nana Baffour Asare Twi-Brempong, Adontihene of Techiman Traditional Area, said this at an end of year dancing competition organized by the council for ethnic groups in the Techiman municipality. About 50 ethnic groups took part in the competition, aimed at fostering co-existence amongst them.

The chief said the event was also to enable the groups to study and respect each other’s culture and values so as to enhance the development of the municipality.

Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw IV, Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area, underscored the need for all chiefs to institute festivals to bring all ethnic groups together for the socio-economic development. He said with cooperation and unity, the government could provide more development projects in the municipality.

The Omanhene asked the ethnic groups to bury all differences amongst them and to support the development of the cultural centre. He warned the people against setting bushfires and indiscriminate burning during the harmattan period to avert the loss of lives and destruction of property. 05 Jan 07
