145 teaching assistants recruited in Kwaebibirem

Kade, August 18, GNA – A total of 145 youth have been recruited as community teaching assistants in the Kwaebibirem District under the National Youth Employment Programme.

They have filled the vacancies in the classrooms as a result of the withdrawal of the old beneficiaries.

Mr George Agyemang Duah, the District Chief Executive, announced this at an assembly meeting, at Kade, on Wednesday.

He said seven community protection assistants had also been recruited trained by the Ghana Police Service and posted to the district.

They would be under the command and supervision of the District Police Commanders.

Regarding the auxiliary health assistants, Mr Duah said the government had decided that 60 percent of the old beneficiaries should be absorbed into the Ghana Health Service and 10 percent being sponsored by the government to further their education. The remaining 30 percent would be asked to re-apply consideration.

He expressed worry about people’s misconception about the withdrawal of the old beneficiaries of the NYEP and the recruitment of new ones and explained that by the NYEP operational manual, beneficiaries signed two years employment contracts with the programme.

At the end of their contract, their appointments were automatically terminated irrespective of their political affiliations, to pave way for new entrants of the programme.
