1,330 students participate in Tema parade

A total of 1,330 students and 40 teachers drawn from 20 basic and senior high in the Tema Metropolis on Tuesday participated in the Metropolis’ parade in commemoration of Ghana’s 55th Independence Day Celebration.

The celebration, which was on the theme; “Sustaining Peace and Democracy for National Unity and Development” saw a dance drama performance on unity from pupils of the State School for the Deaf.

Pupils from the Datus Complex School added colour to the well attended occasion with their impressive gymnastic displays.

Mr Kwesi Hutchful, Tema Metropolitan Director of Education, congratulated the school children and the Tema Methodist Diocesan Brigade Band for a smart turnout.

Mr Hutchful reiterated the need for adults to serve as good role models to the children of Ghana this election year.

He said as future leaders, children must be taught respect, therefore, appealed to political leaders and their followers to be decorous in their speech as well as to be tolerant of each other’s views.

Mr Kempes Robert Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, said the independence celebration must be used to reflect upon the country’s past, present and future.

Mr Ofosuware appealed to Ghanaians to forge ahead in peace and unity as the country heads towards elections in December.

Mitchel Camp 2 JHS Cadet Corps emerged winners for the basic schools while Republic Road JHS and Naylor SDA School were second and third respectively.

Our Lady of Mercy SHS, Tema SHS and Tema Manhean SHS also emerged as first, second and third for the senior high school category.

All the winners were given certificates and plaques and Datus Complex School, and the State School for the Deaf also received certificates of participation.
