13 pupils of Mabang Presby JHS get pregnant

The Mabeng Presbyterian JHS in the Ahafo-Ano North in the Ashanti Region has recorded 13 teenage pregnancies within two academic years.

This means on average, two pupils get pregnant in a term.

Information gathered by Akoma 87.9FM indicates that the girls are between the ages of 13 and 16 years.

These school girls are usually defiled and impregnated by taxi drivers and galamsey operators in the community. One of the victims told Onua FM’s Bright Asempa on Ghana Dadwen that she got impregnated by a teaching practice personnel from the St. Joseph College of Education.

For the past three years, pupils of Mabang Presby JHS write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) with at least one of them being pregnant.

Situation in the school is worrying because not only are the pupils falling prey to the rich adults in the community, but the girls’ own schoolmates. Currently, the Mabang Presby has student couple in the school.

A JHS Form 2(A) pupil is fathering a baby with a female colleague in JHS Form 2(B). The situation has raised concerns about how moral decadence is gradually warming itself into once disciplined mission schools.
