13 Jan. 1972: The Beginning of The Acheampong Years

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the end of Ghana’s Second Republic, when the Progress Party government of Dr. Busia was dispatched into political oblivion. Our new leaders, the fourth lot since independence, grandly called themselves our redeemers and formed the National Redemption Council. The people poured into the streets, cheering and hailing these men and heaping abuse on Busia and his followers.
