125 candidates to contest 27 seats in Greater Accra

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA – One hundred and twenty-five candidates including 21 independent and 16 females filed their papers to contest the 27 Parliamentary Seats in Greater Accra Region at the close of nomination on October 21.

Statistics made available to the Ghana News Agency indicated that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) are contesting all the 27 Parliamentary Seats, the Convention People’s Party (CPP), 25 seats and the People’s National Convention (PNC) 14 seats.

The rest are the Democratic People’s Party (DPP) five seats; Every Ghanaian Living Everywhere (EGLE), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and the National Reform Party (NRP) two seats each.

In Elections 2000, 129 candidates including five independent and 20 female candidates filed to contest the parliamentary elections. The NPP, NDC, CPP, and the NRP fielded 22 candidates each, PNC 19 candidates, United Ghana Movement 16 candidates and the GCPP one.
