123 out of 200 SHSs under construction – Mahama

President John Mahama has disclosed work is progressing on 123 out of the 200 community Day Senior High Schools promised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

According to him, the number includes the initial 50 schools promised, most of which are nearing completion.

He said an additional 23 are being executed under the World Bank Schools’ improvement project and the recent awarding of another 50 schools to contractors.

The president has therefore assured the chiefs and people of Ziope, one of the beneficiary communities in the Volta region; his government is committed to delivering the 200 SHSs by December 2016.

“I know we promised 200 schools and the people hold our manifesto and keep marking page by page.

“If you do 123 out of 200, you’ve got more than the pass mark and we still have one year and four months to go, so by December 2016, when they are marking the manifesto, they will find that we have fulfilled our promise,” Mahama told the gathering at this year’s Agbleza (farming festival) at Ziope in the Volta region.
