114 people want to be MPs in Western Region; only 26 seats available

A total of 114 persons seeking to become members of parliament in the Western Region have filed their nominations to contest in this year’s parliamentary election for 26 slots in the region.

Western Regional Director of EC, Stephen Opoku Mensah, who revealed this to Connect 97.1FM in Takoradi Tuesday, said the EC has identified some errors in the various forms during the submission.

He said the errors were pointed out to the various aspirants for the necessary corrections before their nomination forms were accepted by officials for further vetting processes.

Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress Communications Director in the region, Famous Tumi Acquah, says the party is not threatened by two of its members who lost in the primaries but filed as independent candidates for Jomoro and Sefwi Akontombra constituencies respectively.

Kofi Amalema and Herod Kobbina both NDC members, have filed as independent parliamentary aspirants are contesting the December parliamentary election as independent candidates.

Mr Acquah however expressed disappointment over Mr Kobbina’s decision to contest the seat as an independent.
