11 die in motor accident on Accra Winneba road

Gomoa-Dabenye C/R), Aug. 26, GNA- Eleven people, died in a motor accident on Thursday morning at Gomoa- Dabenye near Buduata on the Winneba- Accra road.

Nine of them died on the spot and two others at the Winneba Hospital, while 17 passengers received various degrees of injuries, when a Mercedez Benz bus on which they were travelling to Accra collided with an Abidjan bound vehicle.

Mr Nicholas Gasu, Winneba District Police Commander, told newsmen at Gomoa-Dabenye, that the bus, driven by Joseph Adjei, who died on the spot, was travelling from Apam to Accra and ran into the vehicle when it attempted to overtake a car ahead of him.

Mr Gasu said most of victims were women and children.

The Police Commander said the injured were on admission while the bodies of the dead had been deposited at the mortuary. He described the accidents as “very sad” and appealed to drivers to be very careful on the road.

On May this year, nine people were killed in an accident at Kyiren Nkwanta and six at Gomoa-Ankamu on the same road.
