10th Anniversary of the late Opoku Ware 11

Kumasi, Feb. 25, GNA – A Requiem and Memorial Service to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the death of Otumfuo Opoku Ware 11, the immediate-past Asantehene, was on Wednesday held at the St. Cyprian’s Anglican Cathedral in Kumasi.

The occasion was graced by Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11, Asantehene, and a host of paramount chiefs and other traditional rulers, clergymen, heads of departments and agencies, as well as some leading members of the Anglican Church.

It formed part of activities marking the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the enstoolment of Otumfuo Osei Tutu, Asantehene, which is being held on the theme “A Decade of Inspirational Leadership: Peace and Progress”.

In a sermon, the Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, entreated leaders of the country to strive to be transparent and accountable to their people in their endeavours. This, he said, was necessary since leaders had been mandated to fight and advance the cause of their people and to uplift their standard of living.

“We should at all time be humble and not lord it over our subjects because we are there for their interest”, he said. Rt. Rev. Prof. Asante hailed the late Otumfuo Opoku Ware for his commitment, humility, tolerance for divergent views and dedication to promoting quality education and healthcare during his 29-year reign. The Methodist Bishop commended the late Asantehene’s successor, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, for continuing with the good works of the former and hoped that, this would help to foster unity and accelerated development of the Asante Kingdom.

Rt. Rev. Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, led the congregation to pray for the nation, church as well as the Royal bereaved family.
