106 Navy personnel pass-out at Sekondi Naval Base

Sekondi, Sept. 15, GNA – Mr Anthony E. Amoah, Western Regional Minister has advised the Navy to upgrade themselves in modern maritime warfare to facilitate their work.

He said the role of the Ghana Armed Forces was crucial for the total protection of the country by land, seas and air. Mr Amoah said these at passing-out parade of 106 men at the Sekondi Naval Base on Friday.

The parade was under the command of Chief Petty Officer Class One (CPO 1) Emmanuel Paa Kwesi Mensah, with the Navy band was in attendance. Mr Amoah said the role of the army was crucial for the sustenance of democracy and good governance in the country. Personnel must also support efforts to prevent foreign insurgents from using Ghana to launch attacks on neighbouring countries. He said the United Nations had high regards for the roles of the Ghana Armed Forces in maintaining domestic peace and also international peacekeeping.

The army must work to sustain this recognition the Regional Minister said and added that, the Western Regional Coordinating Council was also pleased with their performance and assistances rendered to local fishermen in the region.

He cautioned the new Ordinary Seaman Under Naval Training (OS/UNT) not to use their uniforms to condone evil in return for financial rewards. Mr Amoah said the involvement of a service person in any form of vices for financial rewards would be to humiliating to the Navy. OS/UNT Emmanuel Mensah Nyanyo won the best in academics and also the best all round Ordinary Seaman awards, while Ernest Yao Folley and Emmanuel Paa Kwesi Quarshie won the best in weaponry and drill awards respectively.
