‘100% YES votes impossible’

The National Organiser of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Kofi Adams, has said he would have called for a recount of ballots if President John Mahama had received 100 percent endorsement from voters who took part in the just-ended presidential primaries.

Mr Adams told host of Asempa FM’s political talk show “Ekosii Sen,” Kwadwo Asare-Barfuor Acheampong that it is humanly impossible for the President to have had absolute endorsement without any dissension.

He was responding to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s claims that the President’s 95 per cent endorsement showed a decline in his popularity within his own Party.

President Mahama, unopposed, received 95 percent endorsement to lead the NDC into the 2016 elections.

Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central Rachel Appoh said she had to resort to bribe-giving, cajoling and begging in order to reduce the number of “NO” votes against the President in her constituency.

The NDC has, however, rejected claims that the President is unpopular because he couldn’t secure 100 percent endorsement. It insists 95 percent is an excellent grade.
