100 rural unemployed acquire skills in starch and soap-making

Mpasaso (Ash), Sept 9, GNA – A day’s training on starch and soap-making has been held for more than 100 rural unemployed at Mpasaso in the Ahafo-Ano South District. Gligal Glory Foundation, a local Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), organized the programme to promote income generation and reduce poverty in the area.

Mr Mohammed Ibn Iddrisu, Executive Director of the NGO, said their vision was to boost rural economies. This, they would do by empowering the rural people through skills acquisition and the development of micro-businesses. He said it was time the nation focused on vocational and technical training, if Ghana was to reduce the rising unemployment, particularly among the youth.

Mr Iddrisu called on churches in the area to help assist the people to become economically self-supporting. Nana Tabiri Gyansah III, Omanhene of Mpasaso, praised the Organization for the initiative and urged the participants to put to good use the skills they had received to improve their lives. 9 Sept 09
