10-Member Western Regional poverty Monitoring Group Inaugurated

Sekondi, Sept.3 -GNA- Mr Joseph B. Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, on Friday inaugurated a Regional Poverty Monitoring Group (RPMG), at Sekondi.

He said the RPMG would assist the Region to determine the poverty levels and how to introduce remedial measures.

The 10-member group would operate under the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

Captain Patrick I. Donkor, acting Director, Monitoring and Evaluation, of the NDPC, expressed concern about the lack of data on the incidence of poverty in the Region, saying it could affect the development agenda.

He said the NDPC was interested to know the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Region, to devise appropriate policies and methodologies to tackle poverty.

Doctor William K. Ahadzi, a Research fellow of the Centre for Social Policy Studies, asked members of the RPMG, to visit key project sites periodically to write progress reports.

They must also ensure that gender based analysis of all projects were undertaken in the districts.
