10 Chinese illegal miners arrested at Takwa

Ten Chinese suspected to be illegal miners have been arrested at Efuanta, a suburb in Tarkwa, in the Western region.

The Tarkwa Police command made the arrests in collaboration with a taskforce of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.

According to the leader of the anti-galamsey taskforce Richard Addo, the Chinese were arrested upon a tip-off. He said upon interrogation it was apparent the suspects had no license to mine in the area.

The suspects are Taojiang Ming, 51, He Bing Kheng, 47, Wang Hai Feng, 41, Xiong Deng, 53, Ghang Wen Hua, 41, Khoa Aing Wing, 47, Wong Weng Hill, 41, Mong Yon Weng, 35, Lee Jian, 51, Tushou Tiag, 51.

The taskforce also recovered a cash of Gh¢1,520 and five mobile phones from the site. The suspects have since been transferred to the Western regional police headquarters for investigations to continue.
