?10.5bn allocated to the Volta Region

Hohoe, Sept. 14, GNA – The Government allocated 10.5 billion cedis out of the 113 billion cedis Capitation grant to 350,336 basic school pupils and students in the Volta region.

Mr Samuel Donkor Gyang, Volta Regional Director of Education in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Hohoe on Tuesday, said 4.4 billion cedis of the amount which constituted about 50 percent had already been disbursed under the Free Compulsory Basic Education (FCUBE) programme.

Mr Gyang said the grant was for the payment of sports, culture fees and the provision of financial resources for school administration and other activities to facilitate quality education.

He therefore, appealed to school authorities to update and furnish the Ghana Education Service (GES) with data on their enrolment to enable the GES rectify any anomaly.

Mr Gyang advised them to open bank accounts for the grant and also embark on enrolment drive to ensure children of school going age attend school.
