1.7 Billion Cedi For Tamale – Yendi Road

Yendi (Northern Region), 29 Oct., The government has voted 1.7 billion cedis for the rehabilitation of the 96-kilometre Tamale-Yendi road. Another 108 million cedis has been released for the rehabilitation of the 70-kilometre Yendi-Bimbilla road. This was announced by Mr. Gilbert Iddi, Northern Regional Minister, at the commissioning of a new meeting hall for the Dagbon state council at Yendi yesterday. The hall was built with the assistance of the British High Commission in Ghana at a cost 30,000 pounds sterling. The Tamale-Yendi-Bimbilla road is in a deplorable state, and heavy duty vehicles avoid it, especially at this time of the year when the rains have washed away many portions. Mr. Iddi said the health sector was also being catered for, citing the release of 5.9 billion cedis for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Yendi hospital, which started two years ago. Mr. Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu, MP for Yendi, commended the regional minister for his dedication in helping to solve the problems in the region.
